The Landlady and I went to vote today in Bridge City and it sounds like there was some confusion re: the wording on the ballots. For those who don't know, LA voted on a ammendment that defines "marriage" as union between a man and a woman. Quick story below.
We live in Bridge City (Gumbo Capital of the World, don't you know). The kind ladies at the polling place made a point of carefully explaining the wording on the ballot. It seems that some people were confused because it is a bit counterintuitive. People who support gay marriage had to vote "no" and and vice versa. This confused the good Catholics of Bridge City and it sounds like a large number of people voted "no" thinking they were voting "against gay marriage". In reality, they were voting against the ammendment.
This is my first person account. As much as I would like to defeat this thing through the kindness of strangers, we may pick up some extra "confusion" votes.
I hope all the folks in LA got to the polls today. It has been a hell of a week. All of the Pirates on the Gulf Coast are safe and sound but our hideout in Perdido Key is all blown to hell.
Any word on how large the turnout was? I have been hopelessly out of the loop.
